Edelweiss
Indianapolis may not be known for its German restaurants, but Edelweiss has been one restaurant that local diners have turned to for years when they're craving authentic German cuisine. The locally owned and operated restaurant uses German recipes that have been passed on from family members for generations. Familiar German favorites like Wiener schnitzel and bratwurst are served next to more traditional German dishes that include kassler rippchen and bayrischer schweinebraten. Side dishes are enormous and include sauerkraut, German potato salad, potato pancakes and the noodle dish spaetzle. The moderately priced restaurant is perfectly suited for family gatherings, with plenty of comfortable seating, and friendly servers that go out of their way to make you feel at home. A full service bar offers a pleasant mix of domestic and import beer, highlighted by numerous hard to find German labels. -- Chris Saunders
